Go Ahead and Miss The Train

A woman in harmony with her spirit is like a river flowing.

She goes where she will without pretense and arrives at her

destination, prepared to be herself and only herself.

~ Maya Angelou

You never know what the day will bring.  This is the magic of traveling.  You meet yourself on the road.  You are presented with problems to solve.  How does one respond when you miss a train?  As Nassim Nicholas Taleb, author of 'The Black Swan' says, never run to catch a train.  In other words, allow space for the unexpected to occur.  It's the old axiom of "life is what happens when you are busy making plans."  Stay open and see what happens.

I have discovered I like who shows up ~ namely me.  I can roll with things.  For some reason it is easier when I travel.  I am more in the Now.  This morning I am asking myself, how does this translate in day to day living?  It seems I have agendas, some obvious, some hidden and all probably out of habit.  Travel affords me greater awareness, the ability to check in with myself and ask myself what do I want...

This morning I woke up "bumpy".   Wanting to create discord where there is none...my mind waits for me to wake up.  Less and less I get sucked into this black hole - thank g-d!  More and more, from observation, awareness and enquiry, I am free.

Can I drop the external story?

Can I drop the internal story?

Can I drop my concern about the story?

I am the woman whose river must flow.  I have no choice but to do what it takes to be myself and no one else.  The river doesn't run smoothly 24/7.  And I have less and less concern these days...

And you want to know the miracles that happened from asking myself what did I really want as I allowed the bumpiness of the morning?  I made an appointment to take care of myself.  There was a cancellation at noon and I grabbed it.  As a result, I found a place that will display my art...and lead a dance class...

Wishing you an amazing life,
I am

A Little Bit of Background

Test

Everything started 3 years ago.  I decided, along with my ex-husband, that our marriage was over.  I was commuting from Southern California to Las Vegas enrolled in a Life Coaching program where I became certified as a Transformational Life Coach. Needless to say, I am the one who has experienced the biggest transformation.

I decided to move here for a few years and look for "home".  I traveled to Bali while reading Eat, Pray, Love on the plane realizing I was about to do many of the same things as Liz Gilbert.  I did meet with Ketut Liyur who told me art would be a big part of my life. He also told me I needed to find someone younger than me and choose very carefully as many men would tell me they loved me.  Neither art nor a significant relationship, were in my horizon at that time.

On the way to Bali my layover in Sydney was 6 hours. I grabbed the train to Circular Quay, caught a ferry and had a beautiful lunch at The Commons, I knew I would be back.  Naturally, Bali was magical. I then headed off to Hong Kong, spent a few days on Lamma Island and returned to Las Vegas.

The following year in May of 2009, I went to Italy. Five days in Damanhur (energetic art), 11 days on a tour (more art), and 4 days alone between the Almafi Coast and Milan (La Scala).  There is much to say about Italy, but the biggest gift I received was falling in love with myself.

Six months later, I ended up in Sydney for two months. It was my mini living abroad experience, a practice run, sensing I was leaving the States for broader horizons.  I adored Sydney.  I visited the immigration office within a few weeks and called my sons back home to give them a heads up of where mom might be living.  I returned home and upon landing, my first voicemail informed me someone wanted to rent my place for six months.  I booked a one-way ticket back to Sydney.

More magic?  I love dance.  I love 5 Rhythms, ecstatic dance.  On the last weekend before I left Sydney I found out there was Radiance Dance at Sydney University.  I emailed the website and someone named Tony gave me the information I needed to find it.  I went and was in bliss.  I never met the man named Tony but saw that he was a mutual friend on facebook and I added  him.  Long story short, we messaged, emailed and Skyped with each other.  We connected and when I flew back on that one-way ticket to Sydney, he was at the gate waiting for me.  I walked into his life and never left.  That was December 27, 2009.

We headed to Bali in March for a couple of weeks as my visa requires I leave Australia every 3 months.  We danced in Bali.  The biggest moment of that trip was making the decision to open an art studio for me when we got back to Sydney.

I needed to return to the States to take care of some personal business.  I quickly had my first art show.  It was a great success. Upon returning to the States, we visited Laguna, Dana Point, and Portland.  Oh, and I cannot forget our Southwest Loop traveling from Vegas and visiting Bryce and Zion in Utah, Boulder and Aspen in Colorado, Taos, Abiquiu and Santa Fe in New Mexico, and Flagstaff and Phoenix in Arizona.

We have to return to Sydney at some point.  We are talking about going to India and visiting Bali again. Tony wants to see his family in the UK and we leave in less than 3 weeks.  Before we catch that flight, we are headed to Bryce Canyon in Utah for my birthday to do some hiking and horseback riding.

We have been able to find all kinds of accommodations, some of which have been gifted to us.  Our lives are posted all over facebook and we love sharing the journey.

This is the background of my life, leading me to this present day. Now that I have been asked to write ‘From The Road’ for ‘Where to Land’, I will share life as it unfolds.  All of it.

Wishing you an amazing life,
I am
